5 Reasons I’m Switching to Figma from Adobe XD
Share
After years of working with Adobe XD, I’ve encountered limitations that hinder my workflow. Figma, on the other hand, offers features that Adobe XD simply can’t match. Here are the five key reasons I’m making the switch:
1. True Real-Time Collaboration
While Adobe XD offers co-editing, Figma takes real-time collaboration to the next level. Multiple team members can work on the same file simultaneously with no lag, making it perfect for distributed teams. The ability to see everyone’s cursors moving live in the design space is something Adobe XD just can’t do as seamlessly.
2. Universal Access Without Installs
Figma operates entirely in the browser, meaning I can access my work on any device, anywhere, without needing to install software. Adobe XD, in contrast, requires installation and can be limited by device compatibility, making Figma’s accessibility a significant advantage.
3. Built-In Version History
Figma’s built-in version history lets me easily track changes, revert to previous versions, and even branch off designs—all within the same file. Adobe XD file versioning lacks the ability to branch off designs and overall does less.
4. More Robust Prototyping Tools
Figma’s prototyping tools are more advanced, offering interactive components, animated transitions, and multi-step interactions that feel more natural and dynamic. Adobe XD, while capable, lacks some of these more intricate prototyping features, making Figma the superior tool for bringing designs to life.
5. Plugin Ecosystem and Community Resources
The Figma community provides an expansive plugin ecosystem that’s tightly integrated and constantly growing. This allows for custom solutions and streamlined workflows directly within the app. Adobe XD’s plugin library, while useful, is not as extensive or deeply integrated, leaving me wanting more in terms of customization.
Switching to Figma is about more than just trying something new—it’s about overcoming the limitations I’ve encountered in Adobe XD. If you’re finding that your current tools aren’t keeping up with your needs, Figma might be the solution you’re looking for.
